OUR HISTORY & CORE BELIEFS

It all started when…

The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) traces its roots to an early 19th Century American movement for unity & simplicity in faith. In 1850, Brother George Longan, Brother Mulkey, and Dr. Robert Shankland began organizing the church. Their meetings were held in the old court house until the first building of the California First Christian Church was built in 1873. The first pastor of the unorganized church was George W. Longan. The current sanctuary was built in 1917 and endured a major fire in July of 1954. It was determined that the fire was caused by a lightning strike. The church was remodeled and back up in running with a price tag of $85,000.

Celebration of Communion

The Lord’s Supper, also known as Holy Communion, is celebrated weekly and at all special services as the central act of worship. We invite ALL to the table. The symbol of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is a red communion chalice with a white Cross of St. Andrew, which denotes the centrality of the Lord’s Supper and our Scottish Presbyterian heritage. On our Beautifully crafted Communion table you will find these words of the Lord:

“THIS DO IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME”

Becoming a Member

Seeking to unite all Christians in love and service to Christ, Disciples of Christ accept members on a simple confession of belief in Christ. We value freedom in interpreting the scriptures and seeking the will of God. If you are interested in becoming a part of our family, you may come forward during the Call to Discipleship during worship service or speak with the Pastor. Transfer of memberships are also accepted.
